About the Book
Hayley loves her family, especially her big sister Megan, but sometimes she wonders why Megan gets so much attention. Everyone says that Megan is “special”—but they never say that to her. Normally Hayley would rely on Bunny to make her feel better, but her stuffed friend is missing in action. It’s up to Hayley to figure out just what the word special means—and to learn whether or not she’s special, too.
Am I Special Too? is for all young children who question their value, especially in this big, confusing world. It holds special significance for young kids whose siblings have special needs, and for parents who want to open a conversation with their kids about what special means. Readers will learn about accepting differences, recognising one’s unique value and place in the world, and seeing that each one of us is special in our own way.

Michael Leclair is the father to two very inspiring women—his eldest daughter with special needs and her devoted younger sister. He has witnessed firsthand how challenging it can be to navigate that relationship, and how important it is to be sensitive to negative perceptions that can easily develop, especially among impressionable young minds. During his leisure time, Michael enjoys hockey and cooking. He lives in Senneville, Canada with his wife Geneviève and their dog Quinn and cat Booster.
Born in Canada, Hayley currently lives in England with her husband Tristan. In addition to long walks together, in her spare time, Hayley enjoys painting, drawing, photography and the use of digital media to express her creative talents.
